Asphalt Roofing Felt Buyer Guide

What to Check on an Asphalt Roofing Felt Surface

Review surface appearance, separation material and sample consistency as part of an asphalt roofing felt buying specification.

Paper-based asphalt roofing felt material detail

Specify the surface you are buying

Paper-based asphalt roofing felt includes surface separation material after asphalt impregnation and coating. The surface description belongs in the order alongside dimensions, mass and packing.

Use a representative sample and clear close-up photographs to agree the required appearance. A broad product name or a distant warehouse image may not show the finish your customer expects.

Use photographs with a purpose

Photograph the sheet surface, the edge and a partially unrolled section. These views serve different purposes: the surface shows appearance, the edge helps identify the sheet, and the unrolled view shows how the sample presents as a product.

Keep lighting and sample references consistent when comparing images. Differences in lighting, camera distance and image processing can make similar surfaces appear different. Physical sample approval remains useful when appearance is important to the sale.

Keep appearance separate from performance claims

A particular color or texture is not a complete technical grade. Do not infer the whole product construction or its suitability for an exposed roof simply from a photograph.

If a project requires specific test results or an installation system, identify those requirements independently. The surface photograph should support the buying description, not carry claims that belong in technical documentation.

Add the finish to repeat-order records

Keep the approved surface sample linked to the product code, wrapping design and order number. Use the same reference when reviewing pre-shipment photographs.

Merily’s product images and detail videos help buyers discuss the offered material before confirming a sample and order. Include a reference photo when requesting a particular finish for your distribution range.
