How to Approve a Roofing Felt Sample for Bulk Supply
Use a sample reference, agreed measurements and packing records to connect your roofing felt sample approval to the bulk order.

Give the sample an identity
A sample is most useful when it has a clear reference. Connect it to a product code, proposed specification and supplier quotation. This allows the purchasing team and supplier to discuss the same material when an order moves forward.
For paper-based asphalt roofing felt, record construction, width, roll length, mass basis, surface and packing. If the sample is a cut piece rather than a full roll, state that distinction in the review record.
Separate material review from packing review
Inspect the sheet surface and edge, then review the wound roll and packaging. A small material sample may help with surface selection but cannot demonstrate the dimensions and finished weight of a full roll.
If private-label presentation is important, approve the wrapping layout and packed-unit reference separately. Keep those approvals connected to the material sample so different versions are not combined by mistake.
Write down the measurements and requirements
Use agreed methods and units for the checks your order requires. Record actual measurements and the applicable tolerances, rather than replacing them with a general comment such as sample accepted.
If specific test documents are required, check their relationship to the offered product. The sample review should identify what was examined and what documentation accompanies the purchasing specification.
Carry the approval into the order
The order confirmation should refer to the approved specification and sample record. Include any agreed changes before authorizing the final product and packaging arrangement.
Merily can coordinate sample discussions around the roll format you plan to buy. Share your current specification, sample purpose, expected quantity and destination so the sample stage supports the eventual bulk order.
Keep four sample records together
| Record | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Material sample | Construction, finish and sample reference |
| Full roll | Dimensions, winding and mass basis |
| Packing sample | Artwork version and roll-end arrangement |
| Order link | The approved specification and any agreed changes |
