Make the product comparison equivalent

The lowest price per roll is not automatically the lowest cost for the product you need. Begin by matching construction, width, length, mass basis, surface and packing across the quotations.

A short roll and a 20 m roll represent different quantities of sheet. Different roll weights may also represent different specifications. Keep those differences visible in the comparison instead of treating every roll as an equal unit.

Compare nominal area as well as rolls

Width multiplied by length gives nominal sheet area. Dividing the product price by that area produces a price per nominal square metre for the quoted format.

This calculation is useful for purchasing comparison, but it is separate from installed project coverage. Do not treat it as an allowance for overlaps, cuts or the project’s specified application method.

Keep the delivery scope clear

Compare quotations using the same stated delivery terms, destination and shipment assumptions. Identify which product, packing and transport items are included, and which amounts still need a current quotation.

Container loading also matters. A change in roll dimensions or packing can change the quantity in a shipment. Use the loading plan for the selected specification when allocating shipment costs to rolls or nominal area.

Use a comparison sheet your team can audit

List product code, dimensions, weight basis, packing, roll quantity, nominal area, delivery scope and quoted amounts in separate fields. Add the quotation date and validity so an old transport figure is not mistaken for a current offer.

Send Merily the specification and destination you want to compare. A clearly defined RFQ allows us to prepare a quotation that your purchasing team can assess on the same basis as other offers.
