Roofing Underlay or Exposed Cap Sheet: Identify the Product First
An underlay and an exposed cap sheet can occupy different positions in a roof system. Identify the intended role before buying a roll that looks similar to the one in the project photograph.

Read the system role first
A named cap sheet or exposed covering may include a particular surface and tested requirements. A paper-based felt purchase description does not establish those features.
Use the project specification and the exact manufacturer’s instructions to identify what layer is being requested.
Do not borrow an exposure promise
A product approved for a particular exposed assembly does not give every felt roll the same exposure limit or service life.
Merily’s paper-based felt is not described here as a universal permanent exposed roofing system. Ask for technical confirmation for the intended application.

Compare the material only after the role is clear
Then check substrate, surface, dimensions and supporting documents. A powdery separation surface should not be mistaken for a purpose-designed mineral-faced cap sheet.
For bulk enquiries, send the actual use requirement with the product schedule or sample.
Put it in your buying record
| Buying question | Underlay/separation enquiry | Exposed-sheet enquiry |
|---|---|---|

Questions buyers ask
Can paper felt remain exposed indefinitely?
No indefinite exposure claim is made here. Use product-specific and project technical confirmation.
Does a dark surface mean a cap sheet?
No. Identify the construction and intended system role.
What should a distributor avoid promising?
Avoid permanent-roof, exposure-life or system-approval claims unsupported for the exact item.
