Selling Roofing Felt by Roll or by Square Metre

Selling by roll is straightforward; selling by nominal square metre helps compare different lengths. Make both units clear so a customer comparing an 8 m roll with a 20 m roll understands the offer.

State the roll before the area price

Show width, length, roll mass and packing beside the price. For a 1 m × 20 m roll, nominal area is 20 m²; for a 1 m × 7 m roll it is 7 m².

The area price does not describe asphalt content, strength or an approved roofing system. Keep those requirements separate.

Separate nominal coverage from project use

Do not promise that the printed area will cover the same amount of finished roof. Overlaps, cuts and the specified assembly can change purchasing quantities.

When a contractor asks for a net area, obtain the project’s purchasing allowance rather than inventing a universal overlap factor.

Use the same unit through the transaction

Your catalogue can show both roll and nominal area prices, but the quotation and invoice should identify the actual sales unit and quantity. Confirm whether the buyer expects whole rolls.

Give branch staff a common conversion reference so they do not compare a per-roll price with a per-m² price as though they were equivalent.
