Net Weight and Gross Weight in Roofing Felt Orders
Separate product weight, wrapped-roll weight and shipment totals to make roofing felt quotations and inspection records easier to compare.

Give every weight a clear meaning
A roofing felt order can contain several weight figures: product mass, finished wrapped-roll mass and shipment totals. Each serves a different purpose. A clear purchase document identifies what each figure includes instead of using the word weight for every measurement.
Merily order confirmations specify the agreed roll mass and net and gross weight details. This helps align the buying specification, packing information and shipment documents.
Why packaging matters
Wrapping, roll cores and roll-end materials contribute to the finished unit. When two suppliers use different packaging, equal gross roll weights do not necessarily mean equal product mass.
For sample comparison, record the packing method and weighing basis. If a sample is opened for measurement, keep a record of the materials removed. A photograph of a wrapped roll on a scale is useful only when the unit and weight basis are clear.
Keep shipment totals separate
Total cargo weight is also relevant to loading and transport planning. Do not assume that multiplying an informal sample weight by the roll count produces the final documentary shipment weight.
Use the confirmed packing arrangement and shipment records for the order. If pallets or other transport packing are included, identify them in the cargo-weight calculation and packing list.
A simple checking routine
Place the quotation, sample record and packing instruction side by side. Check that the same product code, roll dimensions and mass definition appear in each. Resolve differences before approving the order.
When requesting supply from Merily, state the roll weight you need and explain whether it refers to the product or the packed unit. This makes the quotation easier to compare with your existing purchases.
Identify the mass before comparing it
| Record | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Product mass | Compare material quantities on the agreed basis |
| Wrapped-roll mass | Check the complete packed sales unit |
| Packing mass | Identify wrapping and other included packing |
| Shipment total | Reconcile the order with transport documents |
