Paper-Based Asphalt Felt vs Mineral-Surfaced Roll Roofing

Surface appearance can hide a major product difference. A paper-based felt with separation material is not automatically the same as mineral-surfaced roll roofing intended for a particular exposed assembly.

Identify the actual surface description

Ask what material is applied to the surface and why. Separation material used on paper-based felt should not be described as a decorative or protective cap-sheet surface without evidence.

Use a close-up and the written product data together. Photographs alone cannot establish the full construction.

Read the substrate and system role

A mineral-faced roll may belong to a modified-bitumen or another specified roofing system. Check the exact product rather than generalising from granules.

Our paper-based felt enquiry remains a separate specification, with its own dimensions, mass and intended buying requirements.

Avoid substitution by visual similarity

If the buyer requests an exposed mineral-surfaced product, do not replace it with paper-based felt because the roll shape is familiar. Ask for the project schedule.

Merily’s real surface and roll photographs support identification of our offered product, not a claim to another system’s performance.

Questions buyers ask

Does surface powder make felt a granulated cap sheet?

No. Confirm the surface and intended system role.

Can I identify the product from a close-up alone?

Use the full label, construction description and relevant documents as well.

What if the customer needs mineral-surfaced roofing?

Clarify that requirement rather than quoting paper-based felt as an automatic substitute.
