Comparing FOB, CFR and CIF Roofing Felt Offers

A roofing felt price is only comparable when the delivery scope is clear. Write the trade term, the named port and the rules version, then ask which charges remain outside the offer.

Compare the scope before the number

FOB, CFR and CIF describe different obligations in maritime trade. Under FOB, the main freight is not part of the seller’s carriage obligation; CFR includes carriage to the named destination port; CIF also includes the specified insurance obligation.

This is a short purchasing comparison, not the full rule text. Confirm the appropriate term for the actual container handover with your forwarder and use the agreed contract wording.

Do not confuse freight payment with risk transfer

A seller paying freight to a destination does not mean every risk transfers there. Risk, cost and insurance need separate attention.

The International Chamber of Commerce publishes the authoritative Incoterms rules. Ask your commercial team to check the exact rule and any separately agreed insurance arrangements.

Bring every offer to one comparison basis

Request the same roll specification, packing and quantity in each quotation. Show origin, main freight and destination costs separately where they fall to you.

For a Merily quotation, send the named port and scope you want. A CIF label should not be read as a promise that all local charges, import costs or inland delivery are included.

Questions buyers ask

Is CIF the same as delivery to my warehouse?

No. Identify the named port and check inland delivery and local charges separately.

Does paying freight determine when risk transfers?

Not by itself. Read the selected rule and the contract.

Which term should I request?

Use the term that fits your actual delivery arrangement, confirmed with your forwarder and commercial team.
