Receiving a Roofing Felt Shipment at Your Warehouse

Receiving is your last opportunity to document how a roofing felt shipment arrived before it becomes warehouse stock. Check quantities and condition while the delivery reference and packaging are still easy to identify.

Prepare the receiving reference

Have the order, packing list and item breakdown available. Confirm who will count rolls and record exceptions. Where more than one specification is loaded, identify each group separately.

Do not assume a total container count proves the right quantity of every item arrived.

Record overall condition before detailed checks

Photograph the arrival condition, cargo arrangement and any visible damage. Then take close-ups that include the affected wrapper or roll end. Use a consistent item reference.

Retain the information needed for any transport or supply enquiry. Follow the agreed receiving and notification procedures rather than delaying until the goods have been redistributed.

Move approved stock into an identifiable location

Separate items requiring review from goods accepted for sale. Label warehouse locations so differing roll sizes or wrappers are not mixed.

Compare any measurements using the method and basis agreed with the supplier. A gross packed weight should not be compared directly with an unpacked-material figure.

Questions buyers ask

Should we open every roll?

Agree an inspection approach appropriate to the order. Do not invent an acceptance standard after delivery.

What if the total count is correct but the mix is wrong?

Record each item’s received quantity and compare it with the agreed breakdown.

Should questioned rolls be sold immediately?

Keep their identity and evidence intact while the responsible parties review the issue.
