Compound Base Mat for SBS / APP Waterproofing Membranes
Glass-scrim-reinforced nonwoven for bituminous membrane production. Compare 4×4 through Leno 9×9 constructions by basis weight, directional strength and tear performance.

The right material for the right layer.
A compound base mat combines glass mesh with a nonwoven web to form a composite reinforcement carrier. The mesh construction and nonwoven basis weight work together, so the full model specification matters more than a generic “composite mat” description.
Where it is used
For the reinforcement carrier in SBS / APP bituminous waterproofing membranes and asphalt shingles. Specify the mesh construction and its matching basis weight for the membrane you produce.

Technical data for the stated grade.
On a small screen, swipe the table horizontally to compare grades.
| Item / unit | 4×4 | 5×5 | 6×6 | 7×7 | Leno 7×7 | Leno 8×8 | Leno 9×9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basis weight (g/m²) | 90 | 100 | 110 | 120 | 130 | 140 | 180 |
| Mass variation (%) | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Tensile force TD (N/50 mm) | 150 | 200 | 280 | 470 | 500 | 600 | 1000 |
| Tensile force MD (N/50 mm) | 300 | 400 | 500 | 550 | 600 | 700 | 1000 |
| Elongation at break (%) | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
| Tear strength TD (N) | 140 | 160 | 210 | 320 | 330 | 350 | 550 |
| Tear strength MD (N) | 250 | 270 | 320 | 370 | 380 | 400 | 600 |
| Water resistance (%) | 80 | 80 | 80 | 80 | 80 | 80 | 80 |
| Moisture content (%) | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 |
Each column is one construction and its corresponding grade. MD = machine direction; TD = transverse direction. Leno describes the mesh construction.
Make the order fit your production.
Order the construction, not just the weight
State both the mesh model and basis weight. For example, the 4×4 model in the table corresponds to 90 g/m²; the Leno 9×9 model corresponds to 180 g/m².
Check directional performance
Use the MD and TD tensile and tear rows when comparing options. The listed construction affects performance in both directions.
Confirm the production roll
Provide membrane type, target reinforcement, width, length and core size. Ask for the actual packing and loading plan with the quotation.
Agree the packing before shipment.
| Product protection | Wrapped rolls with agreed end protection |
|---|---|
| Order identification | Mesh model, basis weight and roll format stated together |
| Loading | Roll count and loading arrangement confirmed against actual roll dimensions |
Packing photographs show examples. The final packing list states the roll count, net/gross weight and dimensions for the actual order.
Production lead time
Standard order: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order.
Customized specification: approximately 10–15 days.
Confirm the schedule against the final specification and order. Ocean or road transit is separate from production lead time.

Questions about Compound Base Mat.
What is a compound base mat?
It is a glass-scrim-reinforced nonwoven carrier used in bituminous waterproofing membranes. It combines a mesh reinforcement with a nonwoven web.
Is it the same as continuous-filament polyester mat?
No. The glass-scrim composite structure is different from a continuous-filament polyester nonwoven. Compare the membrane design and the relevant technical properties before selecting.
Does 130 g/m² appear in this product range?
Yes. In this compound mat table, 130 g/m² corresponds to Leno 7×7. This is a different product from the continuous-filament polyester range.
How do I request the right grade?
Send the mesh model or a sample photo, required basis weight, membrane application, roll width and length, quantity and destination port.
Send your specification.
Get a clear material quote.
Tell us what you produce, the material you need and your required roll format. Include the quantity and destination port so we can prepare the product and packing details together.
Useful details: thickness or basis weight, width, roll length or weight, core, quantity and application. For release film, add coated side and release requirements.
Standard production: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order. Customized specifications: approximately 10–15 days. Confirm the schedule with the final order.
