Application & selection

The right material for the right layer.

HDPE surface film is supplied for the surface layer of SBS bituminous and self-adhesive waterproofing membranes. Selected grades can also wrap finished membrane rolls. The facing and wrapping duties require separate grade selection.

Where it is used

For SBS bituminous and self-adhesive membrane facings. Common 100 and 150 μm grades can replace cross-laminated facing in suitable membrane constructions, subject to the required performance. A separate 50 μm grade is used for heat-shrink wrapping of finished membrane rolls.

Facing grades and shrink-wrap grades are specified separately. A replacement facing must be assessed for the actual membrane design; no universal equivalence to cross-laminated film is claimed.

Practical purchasing checks

Make the order fit your production.

Identify facing or wrapping first

Tell us whether the film stays on the membrane surface or wraps the completed roll. This identifies the grade before dimensions are quoted.

Assess replacement performance

If replacing a cross-laminated facing, provide the current film sample, membrane construction and mechanical requirements for comparison.

Check the wrapping process

For shrink film, provide the wrapping equipment, roll dimensions and process conditions together with gauge and width.

Packing & supply

Agree the packing before shipment.

Typical roll weightApprox. 150 kg
Six-roll pallet6 rolls × approx. 150 kg = approx. 900 kg of film
Four-roll option4 rolls × approx. 150 kg = approx. 600 kg of film
ProtectionWrapped rolls with suitable end protection and pallet restraint
Shipment confirmationConfirm roll diameter, pallet dimensions and loaded gross weight with the order

Packing photographs show examples. The final packing list states the roll count, net/gross weight and dimensions for the actual order.

Production lead time

Standard order: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order.

Customized specification: approximately 10–15 days.

Confirm the schedule against the final specification and order. Ocean or road transit is separate from production lead time.

Material yield & roll-weight planning.

Material-volume referenceApprox. 1.08 m³ per tonne of PE / HDPE; material volume, not packed volume
100 μmApprox. 10.8 m²/kg
150 μmApprox. 7.2 m²/kg
100 μm at 960 / 1000 / 1040 mmApprox. 11.25 / 10.80 / 10.38 linear m/kg
CalculationArea (m²/kg) = 1080 ÷ thickness (μm); length/kg = area ÷ width (m)

Yield is a theoretical material reference. Cross-laminated mechanical properties remain specific to the tested grade; a similar yield does not establish equivalent strength. Core, coating and packing are additional.

Product FAQ

Questions about HDPE Surface & Shrink Film.

Which thickness should I request?

100 and 150 μm are common membrane-facing gauges. 50 μm is common for finished-roll shrink wrapping. Other listed grades are within 65–250 μm. Facing and wrapping grades are quoted for their specific duty.

Can HDPE film replace cross-laminated film?

It can be considered as an alternative facing in suitable membrane designs. Compare the required properties and verify the selected grade rather than assuming the structures are identical.

Can it be used with self-adhesive membranes?

Selected HDPE facing grades are used on self-adhesive membranes. Specify the application so the facing is not confused with a removable release liner.
