Read Composite Base Mat Tensile Requirements in Both Directions
Choose a compound base mat using the construction and both tensile directions. A single strength number can conceal the difference between the grade you need and the grade being quoted.

Keep construction beside the grade
Merily’s compound base mat combines glass scrim with nonwoven material. The published standard constructions are 4×4, 5×5, 6×6 and 7×7; Leno constructions are listed separately.
Do not interpret an unqualified mesh designation as a complete construction specification. Confirm the supplied grade and the meaning of the designation with the quotation.
Compare MD and TD separately
The listed standard 4×4 grade has tensile requirements of 300 N/50 mm MD and 150 N/50 mm TD. Standard 7×7 lists 550 MD and 470 TD.
The different direction values belong to their respective grades. They are not a range from which either direction may take any value, nor a test result for an unidentified shipment.
Examples from the standard-construction requirements
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Construction / weight | MD tensile | TD tensile |
|---|---|---|
| 4×4 / 90 g/m² | 300 N/50 mm | 150 N/50 mm |
| 5×5 / 100 g/m² | 400 N/50 mm | 200 N/50 mm |
| 6×6 / 110 g/m² | 500 N/50 mm | 280 N/50 mm |
| 7×7 / 120 g/m² | 550 N/50 mm | 470 N/50 mm |

Keep force, tear and elongation distinct
Tear strength is expressed in N in the product table, while tensile force uses N/50 mm. Elongation is another property. Preserve each row’s unit rather than treating all three as interchangeable strength claims.
For method-based acceptance, identify the applicable test and conditioning. The raw reinforcement requirement does not establish a finished membrane system rating.
Quote the actual requirement
Send Merily the construction, weight grade, width and directional requirements. Include your method reference or approved sample if it defines the purchasing decision.
A comparison sheet with separate MD and TD columns makes gaps visible before ordering. Confirm any required shipment-specific documentation rather than relabelling the catalogue as a batch report.
Questions for This Purchase
Can I specify only the higher direction value?
State both directions required by your specification.
Are these actual delivery results?
They are published grade requirements, not batch-specific results.
Is tear strength the same property?
No. Keep the tear method and unit separate.

Useful details: thickness or basis weight, width, roll length or weight, core, quantity and application. For release film, add coated side and release requirements.
Standard production: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order. Customized specifications: approximately 10–15 days. Confirm the schedule with the final order.
