Polyester Reinforcement Tear and Tensile Requirements Are Different
Tensile force and tear strength both matter to a reinforcement specification, but their numbers cannot be substituted. Keep the property, direction and unit together when comparing continuous-filament polyester grades.

Identify what each row measures
A tensile requirement describes the force under its specified tensile test. A tear requirement concerns a different loading and specimen arrangement. Compare results only with the applicable method and direction identified.
The Merily grade table expresses maximum tensile force in N/50 mm and tear strength in N. Removing the units can make unlike quantities appear directly comparable.
Use a complete grade example
For the listed 180 g/m² grade, tensile requirements are 600 N/50 mm MD and 500 N/50 mm TD. Tear requirements are 360 N MD and 350 N TD.
These are grade requirements, not results measured on a future delivery. They do not establish the finished waterproofing membrane’s performance, which also depends on its complete construction and processing.
180 g/m² grade: separate technical requirements
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Property | MD | TD |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile force | 600 N/50 mm | 500 N/50 mm |
| Tear strength | 360 N | 350 N |
| What to retain | Method and specimen basis | Method and specimen basis |
| Document type | Grade requirement | Not a future batch result |

Avoid a direction mismatch
Keep machine direction and transverse direction explicit. If a supplier uses longitudinal and horizontal wording, resolve the mapping before moving numbers into your purchasing sheet.
Do not take the stronger value from either direction and present it as an undirected minimum. Your specification should state the direction required by the applicable test.
Ask for comparable information
Send Merily the grade, required properties, method references and units. If comparing suppliers, retain each row’s definition rather than comparing two headline strength numbers.
Where a shipment-specific report is required, request its scope and availability with the order. A catalogue requirement table is useful for selection but is not a batch certificate.
Questions for This Purchase
Can tear strength replace tensile force in my RFQ?
No. Specify the required property and its method separately.
Can N and N/50 mm be compared as the same number?
Keep the test definition and specimen basis; they are not interchangeable labels.
Do these values certify the finished membrane?
No. They apply to the stated reinforcement grade requirements.

Useful details: thickness or basis weight, width, roll length or weight, core, quantity and application. For release film, add coated side and release requirements.
Standard production: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order. Customized specifications: approximately 10–15 days. Confirm the schedule with the final order.
