PE Surface Film or PE Release Film? Identify the Layer Before Buying
Two films can both be polyethylene and still serve different jobs. A PE release film protects adhesive and is removed during installation; a thin PE surface film is selected for a different position and process function. Put that function in the inquiry before comparing thickness or price.

Use the membrane construction as the starting point
Describe the finished membrane and identify the layer you want to buy. Mark whether the film is removed by the installer, remains in the intended construction, or performs a specified surface/separation duty during manufacture. Avoid asking for an interchangeable “PE film” without this context.
At Merily these are separate product families and product pages. PE release film has its own coating-side and release-system requirements. Thin PE surface film has its own gauge range, process application and technical reference. A common polymer name is not proof of equivalence.
Compare the right supply ranges
Common PE release-film gauges in our range are 35/40 μm, with common widths of 960/1060 mm. Thin PE surface film is listed at 7–15 μm, commonly 8/12 μm, with widths in the 1050–1100 mm range. These differences help identify the intended supply item, but the actual application still needs confirmation.
An existing sample is especially useful when a local trade name is ambiguous. Send views of the film, the roll and any label, and identify the side that contacts adhesive if applicable. Do not use the colour of a sample as the only material identifier.

| Question | PE release film | Thin PE surface film |
|---|---|---|
| Main purchasing role | Removable protection for an adhesive face | Selected surface/separation duty in membrane production |
| Common gauge | 35/40 μm | 8/12 μm |
| Width reference | Common 960/1060 mm | Range 1050–1100 mm |
| Key confirmation | Adhesive, coated side, release conditions | Layer position, process and quoted grade |
| Shared order details | Core, winding, length or weight | Core, winding, length or weight |

Keep release requirements where they belong
For a removable liner, state the adhesive, coated face, required release behaviour and evaluation conditions. Record these separately from tensile and dimensional requirements. A thickness value cannot replace a release-system specification.
For the thin surface-film inquiry, explain the membrane process and the material’s position in it. Confirm the quoted grade against that duty. This page does not assign a universal thermal behaviour or assume that all PE film is suitable for every SBS or APP production condition.
Request comparable quotations
Ask each supplier to identify the actual material function in the offer. Compare the substrate, gauge, width, agreed performance, core, winding and roll mass or length. If two offers describe different functions, their kilogram prices are not an equivalent comparison.
Send Merily a labelled current sample and the intended membrane construction. We will use the relevant product family and supply format in the quotation so the production team and purchasing team are discussing the same material.
Questions for This Purchase
Can surface film be substituted for a release liner without evaluation?
Do not assume that. Confirm the actual coating, adhesive-contact duty and requirements before substitution.
Does a thicker PE film automatically become a release film?
No. The release system and intended function must be specified.
What is the simplest way to avoid the wrong quote?
Show where the material is used in the membrane and identify whether it is removed during installation.

Useful details: thickness or basis weight, width, roll length or weight, core, quantity and application. For release film, add coated side and release requirements.
Standard production: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order. Customized specifications: approximately 10–15 days. Confirm the schedule with the final order.
