Specify Thin PE Film Width with the Usable Web and Order Tolerance

Write the required slit width and the usable width needed by your membrane process separately where they differ. Confirm the tolerance and roll format so a nominal-width quotation can be translated into a workable production order.

Begin with the production requirement

Identify the membrane construction and the width needed at the relevant process stage. If your process includes edge trim, overlap or another allowance, state that allowance as your own design input. Do not assume a universal allowance for every membrane line.

Merily’s thin PE surface-film page lists widths within 1050–1100 mm. The range describes available supply options. Select the width required for your actual order and confirm feasibility with the chosen gauge and quantity.

Separate range from tolerance

The published reference grade is 12±1 μm with width 1080±10 mm. Those figures belong to the stated reference. A supply-width range is not permission for arbitrary variation around any selected width.

If your line requires another tolerance, include it in the RFQ. Ask for the agreed width requirement to appear in the quotation and order rather than relying on a general catalogue range.

Keep width changes in quantity calculations

At 8 μm, the theoretical PE area reference is about 135 m²/kg. At 1050 mm this is about 128.6 linear metres/kg, while at 1080 mm it is 125 m/kg. A change in width changes the linear length represented by the same material mass.

Use the actual width when comparing quoted roll lengths or material consumption. Keep any production trim-loss assumption distinct from the film-only theoretical calculation. Both should be visible in a meaningful cost comparison.

Confirm the whole roll

Include core, winding, roll length or maximum weight and any diameter limit. A suitable width on paper does not resolve the rest of the handling specification. If matching an existing roll, send a clear label and measurement reference with the request.

Send Merily your selected width, gauge, tolerance requirement, quantity and destination. We can prepare a quotation that keeps the production fit and supply unit together.

Questions for This Purchase

Is 1050–1100 mm a tolerance for every roll?

No. It is the listed supply range. Confirm the selected width and its tolerance.

Can I keep the same metres-per-kilogram figure after changing width?

Recalculate using the actual width and the stated gauge.

Should trim allowance be hidden inside the requested width?

State the production requirement and any allowance clearly so both teams interpret the order consistently.
