Calculate Thin PE Surface-Film Width Allowance Before Comparing Price
Compare purchased area with the width your process retains. A wider film may be required by your line, but its input quantity should remain visible in the cost calculation.

State the input and retained widths
Common thin PE surface-film supply includes widths in the 1050–1100 mm range. Select the width required by your actual process.
If the membrane run retains a different width, record that separately. Do not describe all extra width as unacceptable material or assume every line trims the same amount.
Calculate the area allowance
For an illustrative 1000 mm retained width, 1050 mm input represents a 5% area allowance relative to retained area; 1080 mm represents 8%.
The formula is input width ÷ retained width − 1. It describes width geometry only, not total production yield.
Example over 1000 m, retain 1000 mm
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Input width | Area | 8 μm material | 12 μm material |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1050 mm | 1050 m² | 7.78 kg | 11.67 kg |
| 1080 mm | 1080 m² | 8.00 kg | 12.00 kg |
| Allowance | 5% / 8% relative to retained area | Geometry example | Not measured yield |

Include thickness in the mass comparison
At 8 μm the approximate conversion is 135 m²/kg. Over 1000 m, 1050 mm film uses 1050 m² or about 7.78 kg; 1080 mm uses 1080 m² or 8 kg.
At 12 μm the corresponding conversion is 90 m²/kg, so these input areas use approximately 11.67 and 12 kg. Core and packaging are excluded.
Purchase against the required format
Confirm the selected width, technical grade and roll limits before optimizing price. Lower input mass is not a substitute for a film that meets the production requirement.
Send Merily the actual width and total required quantity. Keep width allowance separate from other process losses when building your purchasing plan.
Questions for This Purchase
Is width allowance the same as overall production loss?
No. Keep other allowances separate.
Does a narrower width always suit the line?
Confirm the actual process requirement before selecting.
Are example masses gross roll weights?
No. They are calculated film material masses.

Useful details: thickness or basis weight, width, roll length or weight, core, quantity and application. For release film, add coated side and release requirements.
Standard production: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order. Customized specifications: approximately 10–15 days. Confirm the schedule with the final order.
