Thin PE Surface Film and Thick HDPE Facing: Choose by Layer Function
The names both include polyethylene, but the supply ranges and intended duties differ. Identify whether you need a thin surface/separation film, a thicker membrane facing or a separate wrapping grade before comparing offers.

Start with the layer in your membrane
Thin PE surface film is a product selected for its stated surface or separation duty in membrane production. Thick HDPE facing is selected for a different specified role in the membrane construction. A removable PE/PET release liner is another product family again.
Use a simple construction sketch and mark the material you are buying. This is more useful than requesting a generic “PE waterproofing film” and leaving the supplier to infer which layer you mean.
Compare the actual supply ranges
Merily thin PE surface film is listed at 7–15 μm, commonly 8/12 μm, and widths within 1050–1100 mm. HDPE options include 50 μm and 65–250 μm, with common 100/150 μm facing gauges and widths of 960/980/1000/1040 mm.
The 50 μm HDPE option is commonly discussed for wrapping finished membrane rolls. It should not be merged with the facing requirement simply because the same material page includes both applications.

| Product | Supply reference | Confirm for decision |
|---|---|---|
| Thin PE surface film | Common 8/12 μm | Layer function and production requirements |
| HDPE facing | Common 100/150 μm | Selected membrane construction and properties |
| HDPE wrapping grade | Common 50 μm discussion | Finished-roll packaging process |
| PE / PET release film | Separate product family | Adhesive contact and removal-liner requirements |

Use quantity calculations without mixing performance
The PE/HDPE theoretical material reference gives about 135 m²/kg at 8 μm, 10.8 m²/kg at 100 μm and 7.2 m²/kg at 150 μm. Those figures explain material quantity at the stated gauges; they do not establish a shared application or mechanical performance.
Keep each product’s technical requirements with its own reference grade. The listed thin 12 μm mechanical values do not describe thick HDPE, and cross-laminated film data does not automatically describe ordinary HDPE facing.
Request the correct roll and trial
Include width, core, winding, length or weight and the relevant handling limit. Describe the process conditions or intended use that the selected grade must meet. Ask for an alternative to be named separately if one is proposed.
Send Merily the actual membrane layer, current material reference and target quantity. We can quote the appropriate product family and supply format while keeping the technical evaluation matched to the intended duty.
Questions for This Purchase
Does the same polymer family mean the films are interchangeable?
No. Confirm the construction, grade and intended duty.
Can a film-only area calculation select the right product family?
No. Start with the layer function and required properties.
What helps identify the correct film quickly?
A membrane construction sketch, an existing sample and the current specification.

Useful details: thickness or basis weight, width, roll length or weight, core, quantity and application. For release film, add coated side and release requirements.
Standard production: approximately 10 days for one 40-ft container order. Customized specifications: approximately 10–15 days. Confirm the schedule with the final order.
