PET / Aluminium Foil Laminate vs Metallized PET Film for Membrane Facings
Confirm whether you need a physical aluminium-foil layer or a metallized PET surface. Both may look silver, but their constructions and thickness descriptions differ.
Identify the metal construction
The foil laminate combines PET with a physical aluminium-foil layer. The listed common 35, 40 and 45 μm totals include a 7 μm foil layer.
Metallized PET film uses a metallized surface on the PET base. Its common 25 and 36 μm labels refer to the PET substrate thickness, not an equivalent physical foil layer.
Compare the correct thickness
For the foil laminate, 35 μm corresponds to 28 μm PET plus 7 μm foil; 40 μm to 33 plus 7; and 45 μm to 38 plus 7.
Do not describe a 25 μm metallized PET film as containing 25 μm of aluminium foil. Keep total thickness, substrate thickness and layer descriptions explicit.
