Plan Polyester Reinforcement Usable Width and Edge-Trim Consumption
Purchased width and usable production width are not always the same. Calculate the effect of your intended trim before comparing reinforcement cost per square metre of finished output.

Define the supplied and retained widths
Common Merily continuous-filament polyester supply widths are 1010 and 1020 mm. State the actual required width and any tolerance in the RFQ.
If your production process trims the reinforcement, define the retained width separately. Do not assume that the extra width is a defect or that every production line uses the same trim.
Calculate the trim allowance
For an illustrative 1000 mm retained width, a 1010 mm roll leaves 10 mm total trim. The input-area allowance relative to retained area is 1010 ÷ 1000 − 1, or 1%.
At 1020 mm supply width, the same calculation gives 2%. These are geometry examples, not promised production yields; actual usable output also depends on the run and agreed material conditions.
Example: retain 1000 mm over 1450 m
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Supplied width | Input area | Width trim | Input allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1010 mm | 1464.5 m² | 14.5 m² | 1% |
| 1020 mm | 1479 m² | 29 m² | 2% |
| Basis | Full stated length | Geometry only | Relative to retained area |

Apply the calculation to a reference roll
A 1450 m roll at 1010 mm contains 1464.5 m² of reinforcement. Retaining 1000 mm over the whole length would give 1450 m² and 14.5 m² of width trim.
For 180 g/m², that trim represents 2.61 kg of material. Keep this width allowance separate from interruptions or other production losses instead of counting the same allowance twice.
Compare the complete production format
Send Merily the grade, supplied width, intended retained width and roll-handling requirements. Explain whether edge quality or a specific usable-width criterion is part of acceptance.
Compare cost on the width your process uses, while retaining the full purchased dimensions in the order. This makes the effect of 1010 versus 1020 mm transparent.
Questions for This Purchase
Is the trim percentage a guaranteed overall yield?
No. It is only the stated width calculation.
Should I order nominal width or usable width?
Specify both if usable width is a separate acceptance requirement.
Does every line need the same trim?
No. State your own process requirement before choosing the supply width.
