Record Release-Film Wrinkles Before Changing the Material Specification

A wrinkle is an observation to locate, not a complete diagnosis. Record where it first appears, the film orientation and the relevant line conditions before changing the grade or ordering a different film.

Find the first visible stage

Identify whether the film shows the feature on the supplied roll, during unwinding or later in membrane production. A photograph of the final membrane alone does not show where the feature first developed. Use consistent stage names in the investigation record.

If possible within your factory’s normal inspection procedure, retain a labelled material reference from the relevant stage. Keep the current film grade, gauge, width, coated face and winding information with the observation. Avoid comparing unnamed strips from different rolls.

Map the feature rather than calling everything a wrinkle

Note the length position, cross-width zone and orientation of the visible feature. Describe whether it repeats and whether the edges or the centre are involved. A simple sketch with a photograph can make a supplier discussion much more precise.

Keep the viewpoint and film direction clear. When images are taken from opposite sides of a line, a left-edge description can become ambiguous. Mark the side in the same convention used for the roll and sample records.

Record changes without prescribing a universal setting

List the relevant machine and process settings as recorded by your production team, and note which inputs changed between trials. Material construction, roll configuration and process conditions should remain distinguishable in the record.

This buying guide does not prescribe one winding tension or machine adjustment for all lines. A controlled comparison is more useful than changing several inputs at once and attributing the outcome to the film grade alone. Use your equipment and process requirements for the actual trial.

Make the next supply request specific

If a material change is proposed, identify what changes in the offer: substrate, coating, gauge, width, core, winding or another agreed item. Keep the previous and proposed samples under separate references so approval applies to a defined construction.

Send Merily the current specification, a stage-and-location record and the required roll format. We can discuss the quoted material alongside your observations without treating every wrinkle as evidence that a different substrate is automatically required.

Questions for This Purchase

Should I immediately change from PE to PET when I see wrinkles?

Not without identifying the relevant material and process information. Evaluate a defined alternative rather than assuming the substrate is the cause.

What process information helps assess wrinkles?

Identify the material, roll position, first visible stage and relevant recorded line conditions.

What makes a wrinkle photograph useful?

A clear stage, roll identity, orientation and location linked to the specification.
