Compare 20 ft and 40 ft Freight for Thin PE Surface Film on a Net-Tonne Basis
Use confirmed loading and actual freight quotations to compare container options. The larger box does not automatically produce the lowest delivered cost for thin PE surface film.

Start with the current planning references
Thin PE surface-film planning uses about 50 kg per roll and 16 rolls per pallet, or roughly 800 kg of film. The 20 ft reference is 20 pallets near 16 tonnes; the 40 ft reference is 35 pallets near 28 tonnes.
These are net-film planning quantities, not container gross weights or a guarantee for every route. Confirm the actual packing, loading arrangement and limits before booking.
Compare like-for-like freight inputs
Obtain quotations on the same relevant cost basis and destination. Define which charges are included before dividing by net tonnes.
A sea-freight-only number should not be compared directly with an all-in delivery number. Keep the actual commercial cost scope visible.

| Item | 20 ft reference | 40 ft reference |
|---|---|---|
| Pallet count | 20 | 35 |
| Approximate net film | 16 t | 28 t |
| Cost per net tonne | Comparable cost ÷ 16 | Comparable cost ÷ 28 |
| Break-even ratio | Base cost | 1.75 × comparable 20 ft cost |
| Confirm | Actual packing and limits | Actual packing and limits |

Use the break-even relationship
At 16 versus 28 net tonnes, the load ratio is 28 ÷ 16 = 1.75. If comparable 40 ft transport cost is less than 1.75 times the 20 ft cost, its calculated cost per net tonne is lower under those assumptions.
If the ratio is higher, the 20 ft calculation is lower. This is a planning relationship, not a current freight price or a recommendation to ignore actual restrictions and order size.
Choose for the complete order
Include stock needs, readiness, receiving limits and cash commitment in the decision. Confirm that the selected material quantity and gross packed weight fit the shipment.
Send Merily the thickness, width, quantity and destination. Build the final comparison from the confirmed loading plan and current freight quotation.
