Calculate Thin PE Film Roll Length from Net Film Weight
Use net film weight, gauge and actual width to estimate length. Then keep core and packaging outside the film-only calculation. This makes roll counts and quotations easier to compare without turning an approximate weight into a guaranteed measured length.

Start with the material reference
Our approved PE planning reference is about 1.08 m³ per tonne of material. For thickness in micrometres, theoretical area per kilogram is approximately 1080 divided by thickness. Linear metres per kilogram are that area divided by width in metres.
This is a material calculation. It is not a pallet transport volume and does not include a core, coating or packaging. State those assumptions beside any example used in a purchase plan.
Work an 8 μm example
At 8 μm, theoretical area is about 135 m²/kg. At 1050 mm width, the corresponding length is about 128.6 m/kg. At 1080 mm it is 125 m/kg. Changing width changes linear length for the same film mass and area.
For an illustrative 50 kg net-film roll at 8 μm and 1080 mm, the calculation is 50×125=6250 m. At 1050 mm, it is approximately 6429 m. These are planning examples based on the stated inputs, not measured results for a particular supplied roll.

| Gauge and width | Approx. length/kg | Illustrative 50 kg net-film roll |
|---|---|---|
| 8 μm×1050 mm | 128.6 m/kg | 6429 m |
| 8 μm×1080 mm | 125.0 m/kg | 6250 m |
| 12 μm×1080 mm | 83.3 m/kg | 4167 m |
| Basis | Film-only theoretical reference | Core and packing additional |

Compare a 12 μm format on the same basis
At 12 μm, theoretical area is 90 m²/kg. At 1080 mm, that is about 83.3 m/kg. An illustrative 50 kg net-film roll would therefore contain roughly 4167 m on this theoretical basis.
The calculation shows why a weight-only roll description cannot establish length. If gauge or width changes, keep the new inputs visible rather than repeating the previous length reference.
Confirm the supply unit before booking
Ask whether a quoted roll weight is net film weight or includes the core. Keep gross packing weight separate. If actual delivered length is an acceptance requirement, agree its verification basis in the order.
Send Merily the selected gauge, width, required length or net weight, core and winding. We can quote a defined supply format and packing arrangement instead of leaving the relationship between kilograms, metres and rolls unresolved.
Questions for This Purchase
Can I use gross roll weight in the film-only formula?
Separate the core and other non-film mass before treating the result as a film-material calculation.
Does this formula measure the actual delivered length?
No. It provides a theoretical planning reference; agree any required delivery measurement separately.
Why does a wider roll give fewer metres per kilogram?
The same film area is distributed across a wider web, so the corresponding linear length is shorter.
