Inspect Release-Film Roll Edges with a Clear Width and Damage Record

Check the roll identity, agreed width and visible edge condition together. A useful receiving record distinguishes an ordered slit-width requirement from transit damage or an observation made during unwinding.

Start with the ordered format

Find the selected width and any agreed tolerance in the quotation or order. Merily PE and PET release films commonly use 960/1060 mm widths, but a common width is not itself an acceptance tolerance.

Keep the core, winding and roll identification with the check. If your factory needs a defined edge-quality requirement, specify the relevant criterion and inspection basis rather than relying only on the phrase “good edges”.

Record what is visible on arrival

Photograph the wrapped roll, the end protection and the affected edge before losing the connection to its delivery condition. Identify whether an observation concerns the packaging, the core or the wound film itself.

Use location-specific descriptions. State which roll and which end are affected, and preserve a consistent viewpoint. Do not mix several rolls into a single unlabelled photograph when the issue needs a supplier decision.

Keep width measurement distinct from appearance

For a width check, record the method and the actual measurement basis used by your team. If measurements are taken at several positions, retain those positions and readings. A clean-looking roll end is not a substitute for confirming the agreed slit width.

Likewise, a measurement taken from an outer wrapped diameter is not a width or film-length result. Label each dimension clearly so the commercial discussion does not compare different quantities under one “size” heading.

Connect production observations to the same roll

If an edge concern is observed later during unwinding, keep the roll reference and length position with the observation. This helps separate the receiving record from the production-stage record without assuming the cause.

Send Merily the order specification, roll identity, relevant measurements and clear photographs. State the decision you need: clarification, joint evaluation or a defined alternative format. A compact record is easier to resolve than a general statement that the roll edge is wrong.

Questions for This Purchase

Is 960 mm a tolerance?

No. It is a nominal width reference. Confirm any tolerance required for the order.

Can a roll-end photograph prove total film length?

No. Length requires its own agreed basis.

Should packaging damage and film damage be recorded separately?

Yes. Identify what was actually observed and keep the delivery condition traceable.
